HEAD OF SWIMMING

Job description:

Head of Swimming:

  • Manage swim coaches; ensuring their levels of conduct, behaviour and attitude are in line with expectations.
  • Manage the delivery of the swim programme in entirety including: planning, delivery, assessment, reporting to parents, resources.
  • Ensure all swim coaches adhere to the teaching and learning expectations as laid out below.
  • Revise the swim programme as necessary to ensure standards remain high.
  • Be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage children to participate in swimming.
  • Ensure that children are not left unsupervised in the pool or changing area.
  • Organise, plan and deliver the annual swimming galas for SKIPS and SKISS (including all aspects eg risk assessments, resources, preparation of participants, organising programme for event)
  • Be available to attend and participate in extra-curricular events and competitions, including weekends on occasion, including the FOBISIA Games.
  • Be responsible and actively participate in the ECA programme; including organising participation in competitions.
  • Be responsible for the leadership and management of the SKIS Swim Team (All Key Stages) the hosting of inter school galas.
  • Ensure the individual performance of swimmers and the year group swim teams are tracked and analysed.

As a Swim Coach:

  • Plan and deliver lessons ensuring adherence to the scheme of learning and lesson plans.
  • Plan and deliver sessions appropriate to the level of swimmer.
  • Participate in the development and review of the curriculum in collaboration with the line managers.
  • Provide explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques.
  • Identify participants’ abilities and encourage them to reach their full potential.
  • Differentiate coaching sessions.
  • Provide assistance & cover for PE practical lessons as directed by the DOS.

Assessment

  • Continuously assess each student and formally report on each child’s progress at the end of each term.
  • Correct faults in swimming techniques and identify ways to improve performance.

  • Have an enthusiastic and positive attitude towards swimming.
  • Inspire confidence and motivate swimmers.
  • Demonstrate perseverance and patience.
  • Provide an environment in which the children feel safe, confident and happy to learn.

SWIM COACH

Job description:

Under the overall direction of the Principal and in the light of the School’s mission statement to undertake the following specific responsibilities:

  • Be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage children to participate in swimming.
  • Ensure that children are not left unsupervised in the pool or changing area.
  • Contribute to the effective deliverer of annual Swimming galas for SKIPS and SKISS.
  • Be available to attend and participate in extra-curricular events and competitions, including weekends on occasion.
  • Actively participate in the ECA programme.

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver lessons ensuring adherence to the scheme of work and lesson plans.
  • Plan and deliver sessions appropriate to the level of swimmer.
  • Participate in the development and review of the curriculum in collaboration with the line managers.
  • Provide explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques 
  • Identify participants’ abilities and encourage them to reach their full potential.

LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT

Job description:

  • Provide support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and EAL (English as an Additional Language) across the curriculum in Key Stage 3 and 4 of the National Curriculum of England
  • To work with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to inform on the writing of ILPs (Individual Learning Plans)
  • To be able to help implement the strategies listed in the ILPs and support students accordingly
  • To adapt teaching materials used in the lessons when necessary
  • To motivate and encourage students
  • Assist with marking and correcting work on a one to one basis
  • Attend meetings and reviews when necessary
  • To uphold school discipline and regulations as appropriate and to foster and promote equal opportunities in practice
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the key responsibilities and duties of the post, as directed by the Principal / SENCO

Requirements:

  • Degree / Diploma Graduates in any field
  • Good interpersonal skills with strong command in spoken and written English
  • Some work experience of SEN (Special Education Needs) is an advantage
  • Enthusiasm and adaptability
  • An empathetic nature and positive outlook
