SKIS Under 15's Play Help School In Friendly Football

On Wednesday 8th November, the boys Under 15 football team played 2 ISAKL matches against teams from HELP International School. Both games were 7 a-side, 30 minutes long and took place on the National Secondary field. The first game kicked off at 4.20pm and SKIS fielded a strong team with all of the students who did incredibly well at FOBISIA returning and available for selection.

Match 1

From the off it was a close contest with both teams cancelling each other out, swiftly clearing any danger posed from the long balls that were regularly being launched from one end of the pitch to the other. Both teams were prone to lapses in concentration and one of these lapses led to HELP missing the first clear cut chance of the half. The ball broke to their midfielder on the edge of the box who had acres of space and time to strike a fierce shot off the post which fortunately for SKIS ended up going behind.  SKIS slowly came into the game and started to cause the opposition some problems with Callum Muhammed Cleary’s (10 Gamma) directness and quick feet allowing him to create some opportunities for his SKIS teammates towards the end of the half. Both teams were reluctant to shoot and the score remained 0-0 at half time. The second half was a similar affair with both teams snuffing each other out, struggling to get shots off and test the opposition goalkeeper. The deadlock was finally broken midway through the second half as Callum’s directness finally paid off as he managed to skip past a HELP midfielder and drill a low shot into the bottom left corner. Towards the end of the game both sets of players started to tire and SKIS managed to hold out and win the match 1-0.

  • Final Score – SKIS  (1) – (0)  HELP
  • Scorer – Callum Muhammed Cleary
  • Man of the Match – Callum Muhammed Cleary

Match 2

SKIS fielded a much changed starting 7 from the first match and from the off looked a lot more comfortable and played much better passing football throughout. The first half saw both teams trying to size each other out with SKIS looking the more dangerous with players breaking at speed and finding good spaces in the HELP half. HELP were hard to break down and worked tirelessly throughout to shut down SKIS attacks. The first goal of the second match was a carbon copy to the solitary goal in game one with Oliver Mack (10 Gamma) driving through from midfield to fire a low shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net. The goal put SKIS players at ease and they then started to move the ball well and strung some nice passing football together in the final minutes of the first half before the referee blew his whistle for half time. The second half started very similar to the first with both teams rushing to get the ball forward in an attempt to score. Both coaches were regularly making substitutes throughout the game and the re-introduction of Sean Lee Zhi Hui (9 Delta) and Callum changed the game in SKIS’ favour. Sean’s change of direction and trickery caused the HELP defence all sorts of problems and this led to the second goal where he got to the goal line cut the ball back before it was laid off to Callum who had an easy finish from 6 yards out. The 3rd and final goal was the goal of the day with Sean this time turning scorer as he rifled a half volley into the top corner in the dying minutes of the game to cement his place as man of the match.

  • Final score – SKIS (3) : Newlands (0)
  • Scorers – Oliver Mack, Callum Muhammed Cleary and Sean Lee Zhi Hui
  • Man of the Match – Sean Lee Zhi Hui

SKIS would like to thank HELP International School for travelling over to Sri KDU for the 2 fixtures and the referee for officiating the 2 games.
