Mrs Margaret Rafee
Mrs Margaret Rafee has a wealth of teaching experience spanning over 35 years in the United Kingdom (UK) and internationally. She holds a BEd (in English and French) and completed her MA in Applied Linguistics (Language in Education) from St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, UK. At the start of her career and possessing a passion for languages, she taught French in UK and English in Sri Lanka in the early 1980s. She later lectured English at the University of West London (formerly known as Thames Valley University) and was the language and learning coordinator at Sir Wilfrid Martineau School in Birmingham. Between 1993 and 1997, she was Head of English at Ashlyns School in Berkhamsted. Thereafter, she assumed the position of Deputy Head Teacher at Bicester School in Oxfordshire, where she was responsible for the development of its global curriculum content and staff training apart from assuming pastoral duties.
In 2003, Mrs Rafee was appointed Head Teacher at Alperton Community School, Stanley Avenue, Wembley, UK. During her tenure there, Alperton became a Cooperative Academy, achieved the International School Award, Inclusion Quality mark and Investor in People status. She joined Sri KDU International School (SKIS) in August 2013 as Principal, supervising some 95 teachers and overseeing the achievements of more than 1,000 students.
Mrs Frances Baxter
Mrs Frances Baxter has 12 years teaching experience both in the United Kingdom (UK) and internationally. After completing her degree in Geography at the University of Nottingham, she achieved Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through the Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) programme also at the University of Nottingham. She began teaching at a village comprehensive school in Cambridge, UK and after a year was made head of department and International Coordinator overseeing all international trips and educational enhancement. She completed a ‘Learning through International Partnerships’ post graduate diploma through the Middlesex University completing research to find out how students’ education can be enriched through partnerships with other schools around the world.
Mrs Baxter moved to Lima, Peru in 2009, where she was Head of Geography and Head of House at a prestigious international school. She joined Sri KDU International School (SKIS) in August 2012 as a teacher and was promoted to Key Stage Director within the year. Currently, she is one of two Vice Principals with direct responsibility for student achievement and progress in the secondary school.
Mr Andrew Wyeth
Mr Andrew Wyeth began his teaching career in 1993 after obtaining a BEd in Physical Education at St. Paul’s and St. Mary’s, Cheltenham, UK. He taught for 5 years in Surrey, UK as the Head of Department before moving on to a sports administration role as General Manager on a Sport England partnership project. From 2003 to 2008, he was appointed to the SLT as Director of Sport at an independent school in Surrey. Upon completing his MBA in Leadership and Management, he moved to Kuwait in August 2009 and assumed the position of the Director of Sport within the Extended Leadership Team(ELT).
In his current role as Vice Principal at SKIS, Mr Wyeth is responsible for Teaching and Learning as well as Continual Professional Development (CPD). Being a passionate sportsman, he was a semi-professional rugby player and coach for Rosslyn Park Football Club in London. He took up triathlon and cycling after retiring from rugby in 2003.
Ms Fiona Bain
Ms Fiona Bain obtained her BA (Hons) in Business Economics with Manpower Studies from the University of the West of Scotland, UK. Beginning a career in training in the private sector in the UK and Australia, she completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary) in 1994. She has worked in international schools for the past 9 years and in six different countries like Australia and Brunei. She has held a variety of leadership and management positions, including Acting Principal, Vice Principal and Head of School. Within SKIS, Ms Bain is the Head of Primary and is responsible for Sri KDU International Primary School (SKIPS).
Mrs Louise Mellor
Mrs Louise Mellor graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Management and gained her PGCE from Leeds University, UK. She has over 12 years of teaching experience in the field of education, notably being the Head of Geography at a school in Leeds between 2003 and 2008. Mrs Mellor joined SKIS in October 2013 and assumed the position of the Head of Year from January 2014 to July 2016. She was appointed the Key Stage 3 Director from August 2016.
Mrs Jasmine Sabharwal
Mrs Jasmine Sabharwal has over 7 years of international teaching experience with the past 4 years in middle and senior leadership positions. After completing her BSc (Hons) in Biotechnology, she continued her research and publications in Microbiology at the Asian University of Medical, Science and Technology in Kedah, Malaysia. She then pursued her career in stem cell studies and found her interest in education after providing seminars and talks for medical students at various Malaysian universities.
Mrs Sabharwal joined SKIS in 2011 teaching IB (International Baccalaureate) and IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) Biology, as well as Key Stage 3 Science subjects. She was the Head of Year 11 for 2013 and 2014 before being promoted to the SLT as the Key Stage 4 Director. She is responsible for the academic and pastoral matters of all Key Stage 4 students, ensuring they graduate with excellent results.
Dr Richard Jeffery Levett
Dr Richard Jeffery Levett has 10 years of teaching experience in the UK and internationally with the past four years in senior leadership positions. After completing his degree in Physics, he obtained a PhD in Physics at the University of Cambridge, followed by 10 years working in Finance. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and was a Senior Manager at an Investment Bank before managing a Convertible Bond Arbitrage Hedge Fund.
After a change of career into teaching, Dr Richard achieved QTS via the PGCE at Canterbury Christchurch University in UK, specialising in Science. He taught at an inner city UK state school before joining SKIS in August 2011 as the first Head of Science before being promoted to the position of Key Stage 5 Director in January 2013. He is responsible for the academic and pastoral matters of students studying the prestigious IB Diploma Programme.
Ms Gwen Tan Bee Thing
Ms Gwen Tan Bee Thing has 10 years of teaching experience in Chemistry and Mathematics. She has 5 years of leadership experience, having been Head of Mathematics and Science for a year, and Academic Coordinator for 2 years at an international school in Malaysia. She has been the Head of Examinations and Assessments in SKIS for 2 years. Ms Gwen Tan holds a BSc in Chemistry and Biology from Campbell University, United States. She also has an International Diploma for Teachers and Trainer from University of Cambridge.
Mr Daniel Brace
Mr Daniel Brace has 9 years of teaching experience in the UK and internationally with three of the last four years in leadership positions. After completing his degree in Geography, he obtained a Masters in Environmental Assessment from the University of Greenwich, UK, followed by 5 years working in Local Government. He became a soldier with the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (PWRR) and served in Afghanistan in 2012 during a sabbatical from teaching. He achieved QTS via the PGCE at Sussex University in UK, specialising in Geography. He taught at two state schools in the UK before joining GEMS Cambridge International School, Nairobi as Head of Humanities.
Mr Brace joined SKIS in August 2015 as Head of Year and Teacher of Geography and History before being promoted to Enrichment Coordinator in July 2016. He is currently responsible for academic and pastoral affairs, enrichment trips and events across all year groups in SKIS. He is part of the student mentoring team with the focus on improving leadership and achievement opportunities for Key Stage 4 students.
Ms Rachael Lane
Ms Rachael Lane has 13 years of teaching experience in the UK after completing her PGCE in History and English. She graduated from the University of Leeds, UK with a BA (Hons) in History and Politics. During her teaching career in the UK, she has taught in three schools and in her last role there, she was Transition Coordinator between her secondary school and its feeder Primary schools. She led her school to the International Schools’ Award and forged links with schools in South Korea, Taiwan, Senegal and Tanzania. Visiting and team teaching students in these countries gave her the opportunity to experience teaching to the local community schools in a very different environment.
Upon joining SKIS in 2015, Ms Lanewas made English Teacher and Head of Curie House. In June that year, she was appointed as Head of CCL (Co-Curricular Learning). She is also theCoordinator for the Year Book and Executive Producer of School Production.
Mrs Gemma Peryer
Mrs Gemma Peryer holds a Bachelor degree of Science within Early Childhood Studies from Swansea University, UK and later completed a PGCE at Bath Spa University, UK. She has four years of teaching experience in primary schools in the UK and held responsibilities such as the Art and DT Coordinator.
After joining SKIS in 2015, Mrs Peryer is now the Literacy Coordinator and Key Stage 2 Phase Leader for the primary phase. Her role involves leading the staff to achieve high quality teaching, liaising effectively with the Head of Primary to ensure consistency of approach in teaching and learning across the school.
