IGCSE Results 2015
The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examination results improved further in 2015 compared to 2014 even though we had a much bigger cohort of students. Some of the highlights include:
Distinctions in ICE (International Certificate of Education)
Students scoring straight A*/A
Students with 7+ A*/A
There were 20 subjects with a 100% pass rate and 9 subjects with 60+ A*/A. The top performing subjects were Malay: 96% A*/A (with 100% A*/A in Year 10), followed by Mandarin(94%) and Music (87%). Art and Design was the most improved subject at 42% A*/A. It is incredibly difficult to get A*/A in the creative subjects such as Art and Music so this is a great achievement. Of course the teacher and students are to be commended but this improvement was largely due to the support, guidance and expertise of our Vice Principal, Mrs Mason, who is an Art specialist.
IB Results 2015
SKIS obtained an average score of 33.7 (world average 30) when the IB examination results were released on 6th July 2015 with 50% of our class of 2015 having achieved 35+ points compared to 25% globally! This is quite an achievement considering a number of our cohorts started the course without the recommended IGCSE scores of AA in Mathematics and English. We are certainly on course to achieving our goal of becoming the best international school in the world.
Congratulations to our top performing IB Seniors, valedictorians Chua Su-Mae and Choong Man Lin who both scored 43 points out of a maximum possible of 45. We are also very proud of the fact that Wong Quan Han scored 42 points which is one more than his conditional offer to study Engineering at Cambridge University. He is the first IB graduate from SKIS to be going to Cambridge.
Our student athletes achieved considerable success at both the national MSSM (Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Malaysia) level and international arena.
Artistic Gymnastics; Tennis
In the Tennis MSSM Girl’s Under-15 Doubles Final held in June 2015, Zerin Prisha Previndran (Year 10 Delta) and Katelyn Yeoh Xue Fen (Year 10 Lambda) each won a Gold medal. For the Artistic Gymnastics National Level MSSM competition the same month, Helena Low Weng Yan (Year 8 Delta) took home Gold in both the Women’s Under-15 individual and team categories.
Wushu; Futsal; Squash
Over in Wushu, Jenson Ronan (Year 10 Gamma) won two Golds in the Wushu Selangor Championship in May 2015. His classmates, Muhammad Shaukat Ali (Year 10 Gamma) and Jeremy Ong Eng Jun (Year 10 Gamma) also took home Golds in the German Futsal Cup in February 2015 and Squash Malaysian Interteam Games in January 2015 respectively.
We are extremely proud that our All Girls Senior Cheerleading Team Xtreme emerged champion at the Asia Cheerleading Invitational Championships, held in Singapore in early April 2015. The 14-member group has been truly inspiring with their dedication and team spirit in overcoming the obstacles faced during rehearsal sessions prior to the tournament. Then in August 2015, our 20-member Cheerleading team Xtreme Coed Senior came out tops at the Charm Cheerleading Championship (C3), led by Captains Choong June (Year 9 Rho) and Darlene Christabel Setiawan (Year 10 Sigma). Equally amazing is Fencer Silver medal recipient Hans Yoong Wei Shen (Year 10 Kappa) for his performance in the Under-17 Cadet category of the SEA Pacific and ASEAN Fencing Championships 2015 in Manila, Philippines in April 2015. This achievement propelled him to being ranked second in South East Asia and the Asia Pacific continent.
My sincere appreciation to the parents and coaches for all your encouragement and support.
